Prior to starting Turnstone Strategies, Bob served as Communications Director for Advance Illinois and Vice President of Communications for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, where he was responsible for all aspects of the organization’s marketing including its first-ever brand refresh. While at Advance Illinois, Bob led the communications function for the historic Fix the Formula campaign that made school funding in Illinois more equitable for low-income students. The campaign was named Game Changer of the Year by the national Policy Innovators in Education Network in 2017. While at the Food Depository, Bob developed several Annual Reports, two Strategic Plans and multiple campaigns with marketing partners. Bob’s focus on content development and digital strategy helped draw new supporters to the Food Depository's mission while articulating the benefits of its services. His work with the Governor's Commission to End Hunger brought elected officials and community partners together to address nutrition needs. His career started in journalism with the Richmond Times-Dispatch before a transition to a public relations role with the Chicago-based nonprofit Anixter Center. A lifelong Midwesterner, Bob has a Bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College and a Master of Business Administration in Marketing Management from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. He is a Board member of the Chicago Ornithological Society and President of Friends of Stone Academy, a 501c3 organization that supports a Chicago public school. Additionally, he has provided pro bono services to Forefront as part of its re-branding and to Openlands in the areas of marketing and vacant land restoration. His writing has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Wilderness, Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Reader, the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Bob started Turnstone Strategies following a family road trip around Lake Michigan in the summer of 2018.
He also has created "Monty and Rose," a documentary about Chicago's endangered piping plovers, and Illinois' first Piping Plover Day, which took place November 18, 2019.
